DIY Skincare

Beauty products can get very expensive yet they are necessary if you want healthy, glowing skin.  I have found some fantastic DIY skincare solutions that will not break the bank while giving you the results you have been looking for!

Avocado and Honey Face Mask

Mash 1 ripe avocado with 2 TBSP honey. Apply liberally to skin and allow to sit for 20-30 minutes. Apply two cool cucumber slices to eyes, which help reduce redness and puffiness, if desired.

Use whenever you feel your skin is in need of replenishment and moisturization.

Relief for puffy Eyes

Place tea bags (caffeinated) that have soaked in water onto your eyes.

Lemon Yogurt Peel

To create a gentle exfoliating mask, you’ll need to mix 1 tablespoon of lemon juice (fresh squeezed is best), 1/4 cup of plain yogurt (I use Greek yogurt), and about 1 tablespoon of honey. Yogurt combined with honey makes a great gentle antibacterial cleanser.  Mix until evenly blended and then apply to skin.  Leave it on for 10 minutes, and rinse with warm water.

"A" is for Amanda...and Awesome

Lately, I have been looking for a cute and easy way to store my earrings with posts.  I already store my "hook" earrings on mason jars and you can check out the blog I did for them here.  In the true spirit of crafting and being resourceful, I have been saving red wine corks for a while now.  Corks are a great material because there is SO much you can do with them!  I decided to hot glue my corks together in the shape of an "A" for "Amanda".  I hung my art on the wall and pressed my earrings into the corks.  SO SIMPLE!

DIY? I did!

If there is something I love, it's a good "Do It Yourself" project.  I, along with the rest of America, am completely obsessed with the website Pinterest.  It is so easy to find great project ideas and I've replicated many which I have found on other members' boards.  For example, my jewelry was all OVER the place, so I figured I could fashion a nifty jewelry case and earring holder out of materials that I already had.  Here is what I created: For bracelets I used a vintage Coke bottle and stacked the jewelry on itself.  For earring holders, I used a mason jar and candle holder.  Most of the earrings are hung around the edges and the rest of the loose studs and pieces are inside the jars for safe keeping.  It is now easy to see and grab all of the pieces.

For my necklaces, rings and bracelets, I built a jewelry case and made a window in the front out of 4 wooden picture frames.  The knobs on the inside that the jewelry is hanging from are kitchen nobs that would be used on cabinets and drawers. I painted it an antique white and used a jewel toned satin fabric in the back to give it a pop of color.

Now all of my jewelry is easily accessible and on display!  Feels good to be organized...
